Research at the University of Birmingham has shown that when losing weight, besides exercise and calorie-reduced diet, half a liter of water before each meal is also beneficial for the diet.
84 people with obesity were involved in the study. Over the course of the 12 weeks, 41 had consumed larger amounts of water before meals, and 43 other were instructed that before start with a meal they should imagine that their stomach was already full.
Those who drank more water before the three meals during the study lost about 4.3 kg on average, while those with a thought of full stomach lost an average of 0.8 kg.
